DAY 17, Tuesday, March 25: Musée de Cluny

PARIS

My Favorite Museum So Far

Musée de Cluny

The Cluny Museum--officially known as Musée national du Moyen Âge, or National Museum of the Middle Ages--has been on my radar for a while. I love medieval art, its inventiveness and its sumptuousness.  I won't babble on--there will be little context--but I'll show some pieces that caught my attention.

Portland Art Museum has a reliquary somewhat like this.
Check it out.

Man on cell phone

I can't explain what is happening here.

Sundial (duh)

Six tapestries, known collectively as the Lady and the Unicorn, are on display. This is the most popular work in the Cluny collection. I spent quite a bit of time in this room. Here is a link to a Wikipedia article about the tapestries with far better pictures.
The Lady and the Unicorn

Hello dere.

John the Baptist's head on a platter. Jeepers.

RANDOM SHOTS OF THE DAY:

A display in a Parisian version of a Big'N'Tall store.
Is it just me? Or is this insulting to the clientele?

On the way back to the hotel, I found this.
It may be the work of Ememem, a street artist who fills
in the cracks of French streets with small mosaics.
