DAY 8: Sunday, March 16, Dutch Resistance Museum

AMSTERDAM

I changed my itinerary. Instead of going to the Rembrandt House Museum in the Jodenbreestraat, an old Jewish neighborhood, I went to the Dutch Resistance Museum (Verzetsmuseum) in the same area. It suited my mood. Given the weighty topic, I didn't take too many pictures. Through short films, maps, biographical artifacts, and interactive features, the Museum describes Netherlanders' moral dilemmas once they understood what occupation meant.

Here's a picture puzzle called
Find the Filth Pig.

A typical display of artifacts
This guy was a "Jew Hunter," so I
feel as if it's okay to make fun of him.
I mean, look at him! Look at that hair!

I found these small plaques imbedded on the sidewalks in front of some of the houses. On close examination, I saw they represent people who had lived in the houses and were eventually deported to concentration camps. Falkenberg, Bergen-Belsen, Sobibor, Auschwitz.

    1. I suddenly saw them. They must be everywhere, especially in that neighborhood, which was decimated.
