Meet Michaela Delbaere, a full-time food stylist, freelance recipe designer, and traveller. (https://www.instagram.com/michaeladelbaere/) As a hobby, she also operates a bed and breakfast called The Big Sleep. Because of her, I will have a good and lasting memory of my day in Ghent.

My Flemish breakfast |
Michaela and her husband, Erich, live in an enormous house near the center of Ghent. They raised their family there. Now that they live in it alone, they wish to keep the house intact instead of breaking it into apartments. That's why they converted the top floor into guest rooms for the B'n'B. I wish I had taken more photos, but I didn't want to be intrusive. Michaela and Erich's walls are covered with hangings and masks they collected in their travels. The stairs--those wretched stairs that I climbed up and down--were actually magnificent. I regret not taking a picture of them and the huge windows on each landing, where I would stop to catch my breath.
Michaela is a fountain of conversation. I could have talked with her all day. I give you three chances to guess who was the main topic of our discussion: one, two, three. Trump! We talked for an hour. I won't try to summarize. But I will leave you with what Michaela left with me. She hopes we find ways to resist.
"To those who continued to say no to fascism to the very end."

My cell phone service magically restored, I made my way back to Amsterdam. Today's random shots:

Antwerp Central Train Station. It looks like a wedding cake turned outside in. |
I worked with a woman who only took pictures of beds in cupboards where she stayed. Seemed she never went outside! Judi
